received Doctor of Theology degree from SBTS in 1959
(received four additional honorary doctorates during his life)
served as pastor of Baptist church in Decatur, Georgia - 1959-60
served as pastor of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, Louisville, KY - Oct 1960 - Sept 1971
served as pastor of Broadway Baptist Church, Dallas, TX
served as pastor of Northminster Baptist Church, Jackson, MS
trained at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX - 1985
ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1986
served as associate rector of Christ Episcopal Church, San Antonio, TX
served as rector of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Birmingham, AL - June 1987 - 2001
Theologian-in-Residence at Trinity Episcopal Church, New Orleans - 2001-2003
Professor of Homiletics at Mercer University's McAfee School of Theology, Atlanta, GA
gave the commencement address to the McAfee graduates in 2005
died in Atlanta, GA, Sept 3, 2005.

The funeral will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2005. Visitation will be at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Birmingham, AL on Thursday, September 8, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Note: If you plan to attend, remember that this is central time.)

Memorial gifts to honor the life of John Claypool may be sent to McAfee School of Theology, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta, GA 30341-4115; St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 3736 Montrose Road, Birmingham, AL 35213; or All Saints' Episcopal Church, 635 West Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308-1925.

Dr. Claypool's family will be receiving guests this Sunday, September 11, from 6:30 - 9:00 PM at the home of Buddy and Carol Cutler, 2249 Woodford Place (corner of Woodford and Eleanor) in Louisville, KY. Dress is casual.

A memorial service in Louisville for John Claypool will be held at Crescent Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 PM.
