South Carolina and Georgia Arnetts

Some Arnetts listed by county

(first name index follows listing by county)

This is not an exhaustive listing but rather a path in the woods; much more detail is available in the local courthouses and record offices. Many individuals have private collections of these materials, and the LDS files contain copies as well. Numbers in brackets often represent a reference to my own files. Counties are listed alphabetically. The emphasis is on persons with dates before 1860.

As time goes by I'll be uploading some of the family pedigrees thus far sorted out and a listing of some of the individuals actively researching or interested in these families. I'll also be hoping to add links to other web sites which feature these families.

This is the first experimental upload of a collection of material sorted by state and county, and my hope is to upload the rest of the material I have on other states within the next three months. I am particularly interested in the early Arnetts and will welcome additions for factual data which link groups of families together. -------John Arnett

1725 John Arnett speculative birthdate [G. Watkins] 1777 John Arnett speculative death date [G.Watkins], but this is prob not same John. 1756 John Arnett birth date [speculated by G.W. ]who "with his brothers" "fought with Francis Marion" in Rev War. This John Arnett, according to memoirs of William W. Arnett (b. 1823) was descended from an Arnett who came to SC from Maryland and was the father of only one son, David Arnett, and many daughters. David Arnett "and his father, grandfather of WWA, were all born in SC." W.W.A.'s manuscript doesn't indicate the county in SC where his ancestors lived, but the association with Marion places them most likely in Craven Co. where the Swamp Fox was operative. [Sage McKenzie, Gerald Watkins, et al are descendants of this John Arnett.] ____ John Arnett m. ____ and had one son, David and nine daughters 1785 David Arnett born to John Arnett spec to be SC based on W.W.Arnett's memoirs.
