Malden died 1 Nov 1904, Bourbon, Douglas Co, Illinois, [5] buried: Bourbon Cemetery, Illinois. The life of this remarkable man is detailed in a separate biographical sketch. He arrived in Coles Co (Douglas Co in 1859) with 40 cents and acquired land became Sheriff of Charleston and was there during the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Built a brick house in Bourbon and had Lincoln as a guest. He was asked by Grant to lead the Illinois 123rd regiment but declined for reasons of health; was elected to the State Senate several terms (where he supported ratification of the XIVth ammendment) and narrowly missed being elected to the U.S.Senate. Malden Jones was apparently taken with the developing country and named three of his daughters for new states. Florida became a state Mar 3, 1845, and what particularly brought that state to Malden's attention is unknown. Florida stayed in Douglas Co all her life apparently where she and Fillmore reared six children. Filmore: Filmore Porch served as the Superintendant of schools for Somerset and then moved to Illinois. He was the son of Edwin D. Porch and Elizabeth. Nevada died Aug 1939, Villa Grove, Illinois, [12] buried: Aug 1939, Bourbon Cemetery, Douglas Co, Ill. In 1859, Henry Comstock and other prospectors discovered a rich deposit of silver ore near the present site of Virginia City [among those who struck it rich there was George Hearst, the husband of Phoebe Apperson.] Whether Malden had kept up with his Apperson cousins is unknown, but he was impressed enough by the news from the west to give "Nevada" as a name for his daughter. Following his previous practice of naming daughters for states, Malden Jones, gave the middle name of Colorado to Martha (called "Mattie"). Gold was discovered in 1858 at Cherry Creek (near present day Denver,) and thousands migrated there in 1859. Congress created the Colorado Territory in 1861. It became the 38th state in 1876. Ernest: Nancy Jones has done extensive research on the Chandler family but none of those notes have been included here. Children: i Louise Eagleton. 6. Most of the family history information on this group comes from Nancy Jones. Lucrettia died 14 Feb 1950, Tuscola, Illinois, buried: 16 Feb 1950, Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Illinois. Malden Jones letters of Administration refer to her as Luta P. Walter: middle name from the Marriage Index Register of Douglas Co., Ill. Nancy Jones listed his name as Kenneth, but it's clearly Walter on the Register. Children: i Elizabeth Hackett.
Third Generation
11. Edna Porch b. aft 1881, [22] m. Jack Brazill. Edna did research on the Jones family and told Nancy Jones about the Hearst connection. According to Nancy, "Edna wrote Patty Hearst while she was in prison to tell her about our family ties. She received a reply stating that Patty was aware of the connection." Edna knew many of the Jones family in Phoenix. Marjorie Ballou Dawson also did work on this line of the Jones family and corresponded with Betty Whitney. Jack: Marjorie Dawson stated that a James Ivan [don't know who he is] lived with Jack and Edna Brazill (or Bragels?) at Glendale [?Calif] when he was in the Air Force. 12. Margueritte died 1996, Perrysville, Indiana. She kept detailed family record sheets for the Malden Jones branch of family. She was a Presbyterian. Travelled to Jonesville with husband and placed placque there stating that Malden Jones came from Jonesville. Believed that the founder of Jonesville, Frederick Jones was the father of Levi. This sentiment was also given her by Mattie Cowan Stermer but no firm evidence. Date is listed as 20 Feb 1835 by M.Sollers but 2 Feb 1833 by Nancy Jones. Sollers lists this date while Nancy Jones' records list a date of 23 Oct 1857, but on the tombstone the year is listed as 1859 which is more likely (see the message comments under her name.) 12 cemetery record: date on tombstone in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, ILL only year is listed as 1939 and name is Nevada M.
